Family Portraits
Family portraits, made to be displayed
Parents and grown up kids. Grandparents with the whole extended family. Siblings together for the first time in years. Whoever makes up your family, we plan the portrait around the people in it and the place the finished piece will be displayed.
A good family portrait takes more than lining everyone up. It takes considered groupings, flattering light, and someone who knows how to bring out a natural expression in a room full of different personalities. That's our job, so yours is simply to turn up.
Studio or location
Our Runaway Bay studio gives you controlled, flattering light, whatever the weather, and a clean, classic look that suits any home. Location sessions bring in the Gold Coast's natural light and setting, on a beach, in parkland or somewhere that means something to your family. We'll talk through both at your design consultation and recommend what suits your group and your space.
The session
We start with a design consultation at the studio. We talk about who's in the portrait, the style you're drawn to, what everyone will wear, and where the finished pieces will be displayed.
On the day, Paul takes care of the lighting, posing and groupings, so everyone looks their best and nobody is left wondering what to do with their hands. We photograph the whole group, then smaller combinations: couples, siblings, generations together.
After the session, you return for your ordering appointment, see your portraits projected large, and choose your favourites.

Finished artwork
Family portraits suit the larger pieces: a framed portrait above the lounge, a canvas in the hallway, or a print box with the whole set of groupings. Every piece is retouched for its final size, printed on archival materials and finished in our studio.

Common questions
How many people can you photograph?
From small families to large extended groups. Let us know your numbers when you get in touch and we'll plan the session around them.
What should we wear?
We'll go through clothing at your design consultation, with colours and styles chosen to suit each other and the room where the artwork will be displayed.
Can we have portraits of smaller groups too?
Yes. Most family sessions include the whole group plus smaller combinations, such as each household, siblings or grandparents with grandchildren.
